2. BREEZE yarn from Yarnart; 100% Polyester; 200m\100gr

mitten for lovers - how to knit

At the first stage, we knit 2 identical mittens. Let me make a reservation right away - I prefer the 2x2 elastic band. I don’t know why, but I most often use this elastic band in my products. I knit elastic bands from Super Perle yarn in 2 folds with knitting needles No. 2.

For the elastic band I cast on 32 loops. For this you need 4 toe knitting needles.
Take 2 knitting needles and cast on 16 stitches. On the second pair of knitting needles we cast on the remaining 16 stitches. We close it in a circle and knit a 2x2 elastic band with a height of 5-7cm.
We knit the second elastic band in the same way.

When we connect the elastic bands, we knit.
If there are no circular knitting needles, we knit on socks. We leave enough sock knitting needles to make it comfortable to knit (4,5,6). that is, so that the loops do not fly off the knitting needles, and at the same time, so that as few knitting needles remain as possible..
The fluffy thread is introduced when we connect the elastic bands. I will knit the mitten itself using knitting needles No. 3, thread in 2 folds of Super Perle + BREEZE.
I usually knit one row facial loops with a thread from rubber bands, then I change it. This time I forgot and knitted as many as 3 rows. I didn’t unravel it, I changed it to a fuzzy thread later

After combining the elastic bands, we knit 5 rows in a straight line, then at the junction of the elastic bands we knit 2 together (a loop from each elastic band and mark the resulting loop with a marker (contrasting thread).

We knit 2 rows without decreasing, in the 3rd row we knit 3 loops together in the places marked with a marker, grabbing the central loop and one loop to the right and left of it.
We knit further, decreasing 4 loops in each 3rd row in the same way. The green thread is a marker (we decrease at this point).
We knit this way until there are 32 loops left on the knitting needles.
When there are 28-30 loops left on the knitting needles, we begin to decrease each row by 4 loops (like regular mittens), knitting 2 loops together in 4 places. All that remains is to decorate the product with applique or embroidery

Examples of mitten design

A mitten knitted without “grass” also looks good, in my opinion.”

You can also knit a pair to this big mitten

There is probably nothing more pleasant on a cold winter day than feeling the warmth of the hands of your loved one.

After all, it is very important for lovers to hold hands, to feel the tenderness and support of a loved one, but in winter this is quite problematic. An excellent solution for couples is a mitten for lovers, which will allow you to “not be separated” from your loved one even for a second; even in severe frosts you can hold each other’s hands.

The idea of creating such a romantic mitten came to the mind of designer Wendy Feller after a walk in frosty weather with her husband. The lovers really wanted to hold hands while walking, so Wendy designed a mitten for two of sheep wool, where her hand and her husband’s hand were placed at the same time. Later, many lovers liked her invention, because this is exactly what is missing during winter walks.

A mitten for lovers is a mitten, sewn or knitted in such a way that two people can hold each other's hands, while their hands are in the same mitten.

The set consists of three mittens, two of them are ordinary mittens that are put on a man's and a woman's hand, and the third mitten is a common one. It consists of one large base and two cuffs, where the hands of lovers are placed. That is, two entrances to one common house.

In such a mitten, a couple can walk around the city, skate, sit on a park bench, without letting go of their loved one’s hand even for a minute. A soft, warm mitten will allow you to feel the warmth of your loved one, and bad weather will not be a hindrance for you.

A mitten for lovers is also a great gift!

An original and romantic gift for two. You can give it for Christmas, New Year, February 14, or just to please your loved one for no reason.

You can buy such mittens in a store, or you can knit or sew them yourself. In addition, a gift made with your own hands will be even more pleasant. Usually mittens for lovers are decorated with hearts or beautiful patterns. And if you knit such mittens yourself or to order, you can decorate them with your names or initials, then your mittens will be truly unique.

Prepare a mitten template. To do this, place your left hand flat on a piece of paper. Trace it along the contour from the beginning of the hand along the little finger to the thumb. Make a point here. Mark the beginning of the brush on the other side with a dot. Connect these points with a straight line.

/st01.kakprosto.ru/style/kakprosto/images/sprite.png" target="_blank">http://st01.kakprosto.ru/style/kakprosto/images/sprite.png); color: rgb(255, 255, 255); font-size: font-weight: 23px; padding-right: 7px; float: left; ">2

From the point at the thumb, draw a horizontal line equal to one third of the width of the template. This will be the cut line for the thumb. Complete the pattern of the second mitten symmetrically.

/st01.kakprosto.ru/style/kakprosto/images/sprite.png" target="_blank">http://st01.kakprosto.ru/style/kakprosto/images/sprite.png); color: rgb(255, 255, 255); font-size: font-weight: 23px; padding-right: 7px; float: left; ">3

Start knitting from the inner half for right hand. Cast on the required number of loops. Knit an elastic band measuring 6 cm. Continue with knitting. To create a thumb cut, slip a third of the stitches plus one more onto a pin. In the next row, cast on the removed number of stitches on the knitting needles.

Knit all stitches in knit stitch to the end of the little finger. Next, carry out the descent. To do this, knit the last two stitches with one knit stitch. Make decreases in both directions in each subsequent row. Bind off the last four to five stitches together.

/st01.kakprosto.ru/style/kakprosto/images/sprite.png" target="_blank">http://st01.kakprosto.ru/style/kakprosto/images/sprite.png); color: rgb(255, 255, 255); font-size: font-weight: 23px; padding-right: 7px; float: left; ">5

Tie thumb mittens. Slip the stitches from the pin onto a knitting needle. Knit the outer part of the finger of the product to half of the nail. Next, make a descent as for a mitten. Do the inner half of the thumb in the same way.

/st01.kakprosto.ru/style/kakprosto/images/sprite.png" target="_blank">http://st01.kakprosto.ru/style/kakprosto/images/sprite.png); color: rgb(255, 255, 255); font-size: font-weight: 23px; padding-right: 7px; float: left; ">6

Knit the outer half of the mitten in the same way as the inner one, only without a cut for the finger. Repeat the pattern three times in the middle with a thread of a different color. Start it on the fourth knit row after the rib.

/st01.kakprosto.ru/style/kakprosto/images/sprite.png" target="_blank">http://st01.kakprosto.ru/style/kakprosto/images/sprite.png); color: rgb(255, 255, 255); font-size: font-weight: 23px; padding-right: 7px; float: left; ">7

Connect the finished parts. First, sew the thumb from the wrong side using the two outer threads. Turn it inside out and stitch it a second time with a different color thread for finishing. Sew the whole product in the same way. Knit the second mitten symmetrically to the first.

So, in order to sew a mitten for lovers you will need soft, dense fabric red, for example, fleece.

  1. First, cut out 2 squares measuring 20x15 cm, and then cut out 2 identical hearts from each square.
  2. Sew the heart pieces together, leaving 5 cm holes on the sides for 2 cuffs.
  3. Take black knitted fabric and cut out squares measuring 10x10 cm. Fold them in half and sew them on the side to form cuffs.
  4. Insert the cuffs into the holes left in the heart and sew them on. You can decorate the mitten with applique or embroidery.
  5. If you want, you can sew a mitten for men's and female hand from the same fabric. But this is not at all necessary; this heart mitten can be combined with your regular mittens or gloves.

How to make your own mitten for lovers

If you know how to knit regular mittens, then knitting mittens for lovers will not be difficult for you. To begin, knit two regular mittens for a man's and a woman's hand, and then proceed to a common mitten. First, tie 2 cuffs with an elastic band, about 5 cm high. Set the cuffs aside and knit a common “house” separately.

It is knitted very simply - just like the base of regular mittens, only 2 times wider and without a finger. And then connect the cuffs to the base and embroider your initials or hearts on the mittens.

How to knit mittens for lovers?

Knit two “single” mittens as usual, casting on the required number of stitches on circular knitting needles. It’s difficult to give an exact figure: it depends on how thick the yarn you took, what kind of knitting needles you have, and also what size the hand for which the mitten is intended. Usually, from 9 to 13 loops are cast on one knitting needle (that is, for the mitten as a whole - 36-42 stitches). Male version, as a rule, larger ones are made, and smaller ones for women, so the number of loops on each mitten will most likely vary.

One mitten for two- at what end should we start making it?

If you look on the Internet for photos of mittens for lovers, you will come across different variants(at least three) such “double” mittens. We offer one of the simplest and, as we think, convenient.

First you need to knit two elastic bands - the same ones you knitted for single mittens.

Next, we connect them into one whole in this way. Since each elastic band is threaded onto 4 circular knitting needles, we roughly divide them into “face” and “back” (two knitting needles on the palm and the back of the hand, respectively). First, we knit 2 knitting needles for a “men’s” mitten, then 2 knitting needles for a “women’s” mitten, trying not to get large holes in the connection (but then we still have to sew them up). Next, we turn the entire composition and knit 2 knitting needles for the “front part” of the women’s mitten, then 2 knitting needles for the “back” of the men’s mitten. In total, we get one wide mitten with two cuffs.

Having knitted this way, in a circle, about 3-4 centimeters, you can knit to the end with such a straight “pipe”, or you can make a few decreases to make the product more convenient. Deductions can be made in different ways. In the version we proposed, we decreased exactly in the middle, knitting 3 loops together every 2 rows (these decreases are visible in the photo). This made it possible to make the mitten a little narrower. You need to make 3-5 such reductions, depending on the width of the product.

Next, we knit it like a regular (but very wide) fingerless mitten. In length it turns out to be slightly shorter than a regular mitten, since we don’t need the extra length here. The decrease to complete the mitten is exactly the same as on a regular mitten.

Hide the extra threads, wash the finished product in warm water so that all the loops are aligned, dry it flat - and you can give it as a gift!

These mittens will undoubtedly warm your hands, not only with their warm thread, but also with the warmth of your loved one ❤

Mittens for lovers in a Norwegian jacquard pattern with roses or snowflakes in the Selbuvotter tradition with descriptions and diagrams from designer Amanda Bjorg.

How to knit mittens for lovers Lover's Mittens, with a description and diagram.

Selbuvotter are traditional jacquard mittens from Selbu, a small town in Norway an hour's drive from Trondheim. There was a tradition that mittens were worn on especially special occasions, including weddings.

The set consists of a lover's mitten designed for a pair of hands holding each other inside the mitten, as well as a male and female mitten.

If you wish, you can knit a set of 5 mittens: a mitten for two, a pair of men’s and a pair of women’s mittens, but please note that the description and footage are given for 3 mittens, but the patterns are given for both pairs of mittens.

Mitten sizes:

Mitten for lovers: 21.5 cm wide and 25.5 cm high,

Men's mitten: 10 cm wide and 25.5 cm long,

Women's mitten: 9 cm wide and 24 cm high.

Materials for knitting mittens:

You will need medium thickness yarn: 290 meters of yarn in the main color and 180 meters in the contrasting color.

Traditionally, Norwegian mittens were knitted from natural black and white wool, and now modern knitters include different colors into these patterns for your mittens.

Circular or double needles 3.25 mm,

tapestry needle,

Auxiliary thread.

Knitting density:

16 loops and 16 rows = 5 by 5 cm, jacquard pattern.

Using traditional Norwegian knitting techniques, jacquard mittens are knitted tightly to keep your hands as warm as possible.

Notes on the description of knitting mittens for lovers:

Remember that while knitting jacquard pattern, carry the unused color along the wrong side. If the thread being pulled through turns out to be too large due to the pattern, intercept it every 3 loops. To help, watch the video and master class on knitting with jacquard patterns:

The mittens are designed to fit the average hand size of an adult man and woman. For smaller hands, you can take needles of a smaller number for the cuff, for big hands you can block the mittens well.

Let's knit one mitten for two, and, respectively, left or right men's and women's mittens. The diagram shows men's and women's mittens for both the right and left hands, so you can choose which version of the hand you take for the men's mitten and which for the women's.

If you want to knit full pairs of female and men's mittens, in the description there are diagrams for the right and left mittens.

Are you in Love? A week? Or maybe already the second decade? Well, we can only congratulate you. After all, you are the only one who smiles now when you see your favorite number on your phone display. Only you glow with happiness when someone dear to you is next to you. Only you pleasantly freeze at the touch.

I experienced all this for the first time when I met my then future husband. I clearly remember that all the touches meant very, very much. And it was winter outside. But I really wanted to feel the warmth of my beloved hands, even walking around the city. And we loved walking around the city. And it was as if they had rediscovered it. And just at that moment I came across a sale on the Internet. The idea was not new. Such mittens for two look like this. They have two different cuffs, but the common part of the mitten is one. That is, two entrances to one single house.

I definitely wanted to make these mittens for two with your own hands. I didn’t look for any description - I came up with everything myself, although I spent more than one evening on it. But it was worth it! The result was a very romantic gift that pleasantly surprised my loved one. He, unlike me, had never seen such a thing and thought that this was my know-how. I didn't try to dissuade him. Satisfied, we wore our mittens to the envy of those around us.

And after some time, on one of the forums, I came across a girl’s call for help with choosing a romantic gift for a loved one. The conditions were familiar to many - so that a person would understand that these relationships mean a lot, a lot. I wrote to the girl that I could knit for her mittens for two lovers. At the same time, make sure that the gift is unique and truly important.

Just at that moment I read in some book on psychology that every person has the most important word among others. And this word is his name. I suggested that the person in love knit personalized mittens, thereby making the gift unique.

Besides, I explained, mittens are not knitted for one day or even two. They can serve faithfully for several years. So, presenting such a gift, she will automatically say that she wants her and her beloved’s names to go together for a long time, if it is impossible to say - always. After all, it’s not even written with a pen, but knitted. So it will be extremely difficult to chop with an ax.

The girl responded to my call with pleasure. She named two names. I asked you to tell her short story their acquaintances. It was more pleasant for me to knit this way - to know who you are doing it for. The couple turned out to be romantic and positive. Work began to boil quickly. She developed the fonts herself - first on paper, filling up a whole notebook.

Eventually mittens were connected. With excitement and anxiety (for the first time, after all), I sent them to the capital. Two weeks later the owner received the mittens. They were supposed to be given on New Year's Eve.

At the end of January (when I had almost forgotten) I received a letter from a girl. She wrote with exclamation marks in each line that the mittens created a sensation in their big company friends at New Year's party. But her boyfriend didn’t even let anyone try them on. But he walked around thoughtfully all evening. And two weeks later he proposed to the girl to marry her.

I don’t know if it’s ours mittens for two whether they influenced this decision or not, the fact remains that in the summer the guys played a very noisy and fun wedding in the capital. By the way, they still use mittens. True, they are going to order a set of small ones. But that is another story.
