How American Teenage Girls Live - continued. American teenagers: psychology and interesting facts What work do American teenagers do

Children of all nationalities have many characteristics in common, and their development follows a similar scenario. However, in adolescence, certain differences begin to appear. With the US and Russia regularly contrasted with each other, it will be fun to see what the differences are between Russian and American teenagers.

Relationship with studies

Teenagers in the United States take full responsibility for the educational process. Plus, they love to learn. They take an active part in the social activities of the educational institution, devote a lot of time to the development of certain projects. In addition, it is not at all prestigious not to study in the United States, since the study is paid by parents or sponsorship structures, and the invested funds must be worked out. For Russian youth, learning time is a fun and carefree period. Affordable and free schooling is taken for granted. Therefore, personal responsibility is developed.

American teenagers, for the most part, know in advance which university they will go to next and who they will be in the future. Sometimes the parents make this choice for them. This forces teenagers to learn to plan their own time and life for the future. Unfortunately, the majority of Russian schoolchildren, unfortunately, may not even know exactly where they will enter next.

Another fascinating point is the issue of cheating and cheat sheets. American teenagers don't practice this on exams. In addition, when the cheater is noticed, they will definitely tell the teacher. For Russian teenagers, this is something like a sport. They not only skillfully cheat during exams, but also intensively help their classmates.

From a young age, American children and adolescents are taught to have an active social life. Charitable events and other events do not take place without their participation. Russian schoolchildren can also boast of a large number of activists, but this practice is not yet so widespread.

Appearance

Teenagers in America are not particularly worried about their own appearance. They are often not obsessed with excess weight and other shortcomings. Without trying to imitate fashion trends, both boys and girls wear loose T-shirts and jeans. Therefore, by themselves, any complexes regarding social status, the price of clothing or belonging to a certain brand disappear.

In the environment of Russian students, everything is completely different. If guys are often frivolous about their own appearance, then for girls this is a very serious topic. They carefully approach the issue of choosing outfits, as if competing with their peers.

Relationship with elders

It is rather difficult to form a definite opinion based on only one youth films and news reports. But it's hard not to pay attention to the fact that they have the respect and support of the older generation. In the States, they believe that the future belongs to young people, therefore, when a person has the opportunity to provide a teenager with a job or help to realize a plan, he will definitely do it. Even when for this purpose it is necessary to squeeze an experienced employee and send him to retire, the manager will prefer to give way to the young.

As for the Russian youth, it is much more difficult for them to realize themselves. As a rule, the older generation looks at adolescents with distrust or with some kind of condemnation. All projects or intentions of self-expression are regarded with hostility. Very often, in many institutions, good positions are held by retirees, while young people are not able to find a job.

Carier start

Work is considered an integral part of the life and life of American teenagers. From the age of 13, a teenager receives the full right to independently earn funds for personal expenses, having received permission from school and from parents. Such an activity can be delivering mail, walking with pets, sitting with children, and so on. At the age of 16, young people try to go to work in a catering establishment or at a gas station. And this does not interfere with the educational process at all, since employers calmly make concessions. So, adolescents from a young age get used to independent activities and begin to collect for their future.

There are huge differences between Russian and American teenagers. Our guys have no legal basis, as well as the opportunity to work, for example, from the age of 13, which is why they depend on their parents for a long time.

America. The first thing that is associated with this word is New York (Manhattan), Hollywood, the film industry, and so on. Anything but fashion. At first glance, this is how it should be. After all, Paris is considered the fashionable capital all over the world. It was France that brought up many of the most famous couturiers, such as: Jean - Paul Gaultier, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin, etc.

On the other hand, one of the first things we pay attention to when watching American films or TV series is a special style of clothing that everyone wants to copy literally from the first minutes.

The modern American style of dress took a long and difficult time to develop. One of the first prerequisites was the era of the 20s. The era of Gabrielle Chanel, who created the image of a simple American worker. Then there were the 40s - the time of Dior and his new feminine images. In the 60s, the movements of feminists and pacifists develop, the air “smells” of freedom, the removal of canons, and the blurring of boundaries between the sexes. And finally, the 80s give birth to a new grotesque style - neoclassicism.

All this mixing of styles, their gradual development, acquired the character of chaos, spontaneity.

As J. Goebbels said: “all ingenious is simple”. The style of modern Americans is not in beauty and grace, but, above all, in convenience and comfort. The simpler the clothes, the better. Here it is - freedom.

Now every second person dreams of visiting this unusual, multinational and very free country.

Distinctive features of the style

To feel at home among strangers, a guy should buy a couple of three extremely simple but unrealistically comfortable cool things:

  • Sweatpants (in addition to designer sneakers);
  • A pair of oversized sweatshirts with geometric or cartoon prints;
  • As many T-shirts as possible that fit the body slightly;
  • Jeans, jeans and jeans again. Denim is one of the most popular fabrics in America, especially among teenagers and young people;
  • Jacket in suede or khaki wool in a cowboy style;
  • Leather Jacket;
  • Checkered shirt, preferably large.

You should wear the most comfortable boots on your feet, preferably made of genuine leather, suede, possibly moccasins. Americans hold footwear in high esteem.

When creating an image, you can pay attention to the headdress. A suede jacket with jeans will perfectly complement a cowboy hat. Moreover, in the United States, it will not look out of place. And for sweatpants and sweatshirts, a baseball cap is the best option.

The dressing room of an American teenager should "burst" with the amount of old, forgotten, long-worn things. Whether it's grandmother's dress or mom's 30-year-old jacket. Everything will come in handy. Unable to buy branded things for themselves, teenagers, without noticing it, introduced a fashion for frayed jeans, T-shirts with patches, voluminous sweatshirts inherited from an ex-boyfriend or older brother. The girls' favorite clothes are denim shorts, they are worn in any weather. All these styles look very natural and surprisingly harmonious.

Shoes are exclusively sports shoes.

Minimum makeup, maximum jewelry (many bracelets, earrings - rings, pendants on chains).

The clothes are layered, a combination of incongruous.

In order to become an American girl and understand their style, it is necessary to have a simpler attitude to life, to be always on the move.

For girls in America, it is not typical for long fees for the usual trip to the store or taking out the trash. American women prefer speed and convenience. They choose functional outfits - for all occasions.

The blurring of the sex boundaries has borne fruit. Women in the United States are increasingly dressing like men. No one will be surprised by a girl walking down the street in a classic suit and men's boots or in a jacket 2 sizes larger. They add women's accessories to men's clothing, then the image will be more harmonious.

Everything should be appropriate and natural. From makeup to shoes. By the way, about her. A woman in America is rarely seen in heels, especially in everyday life. They prefer flat soles: ballet flats, espadrilles, sandals with thin straps or wedges. All this should be made from natural materials.

I continue my story about American teenage girls. If anyone does not know, then the beginning is here:. Thanks for your comments that gave me direction for the story!

Again, quite a few books. You know, when I was in Holland, they only had three or four books scraped up on the whole house. Something in there, like an atlas, a cookbook and something else. Although several children lived in the house.

It's nice to see young American women reading books. For myself, this is a discovery. I also note a rather old TV - thick and square. Now these cost about a dollar at a discount.

But her slippers are cool. Anyway, they were cool about a year ago. Now they have already fallen in price. Cast slippers, of a peculiar, recognizable shape. There are the same with fur inside.

Someone there wrote about minimalism. Excuse me, here's a photo. True, there is even asceticism here. Which is strangely combined with a bear tattoo all over the forearm. Maybe it's Russian? The cross is also upside down. No, the Russians won't do that.

This is probably a "photograph". Well, it’s good when the ability, or at least the desire to do something concrete, manifests itself so early.

Again tattoos, and real ones. I haven’t seen the stickers with the words. The pink collar is a symbol of the fact that this particular girl is caring for the dog.

Americans let their dogs lie wherever they want. However, the dogs are clean, they are often bathed. Although I'm still not a supporter of allowing dogs to sleep anywhere.

Teenage pregnancy is a huge problem in the United States. Who has not been launched to combat this phenomenon! Oprah Winfrey has eaten all the baldness in her program. But even her authority was not enough.

Millions, if not billions, have been spent on promoting Britney Spears as a symbol of a cool teenage virgin. But the result is deplorable, as we can see in the picture.

All in all, an average girly room. I can only note the flowers on the wall. There are a lot of such stickers on sale. Many people use them to make the room unique.

The table is also pink, girly. In addition, pink is generally in fashion, as I already wrote. Americans often go barefoot at home, and wear beach frogs on the street, even in cities.

By the way, dresses and skirts are in vogue in the USA now. Even in TV programs, girls and women are not entirely in jeans. Who else would have taught them how to sit in dresses correctly! 🙂

Clothes with hoods are quite popular in America. This is practical, because if you are cold, you can put on a hood. The photo is 5 years old, as we can see from the homemade calendar.

A special board hangs across the entire wall, in this case something soft, such as a rug, to hang all sorts of leaves there. Such a little thing is popular in the USA not only in offices, but also at home.

It is called the Bulletin Board or bulletin board. Often made from cork so that you can pin something there. In the United States, there is generally a terrible number of all sorts of office bells and whistles.

Until now, I myself just get lost in office stores, because I have no idea what this or that squiggle is for. However, in the departments "goods for the kitchen" is not easier.

Here we start on the left. Dresser for junk - there are quite a few of them in every home in the USA, because there is clearly not enough built-in wardrobes for clothes. There is some kind of lurid star on the wall.

An incredible amount of home decorations is sold in America. Just take a closer look at the walls, almost all the pictures have them! Apart from those that just stand on the tables.

I have not seen here yet, but small Eiffel Towers in rooms are very popular among teenagers. Many Americans, young and old, dream of visiting Paris, this is a fix idea!

Electronic contrabass. It is convenient for practical purposes only. You play and listen to yourself with headphones so as not to bother your parents and neighbors. There are even electronic drums.

There is a special hanger on the door, which everyone hangs here to save space. I have already spoken about this. Sometimes, instead of hangers, they attach organizers for shoes and various little things.

Above the same door there is a ventilation grill. All rooms, even the smallest, including built-in wardrobes, must be ventilated. At the same time, they are heated, because the heating here is air.

Mandatory posters on the walls. There is also an American flag. Americans are terrible patriots. Notice that when the hymn is sung, almost everyone sings along. Flags are also everywhere here.

There is a box of napkins under the posters. These napkins are everywhere: at home and in offices. In addition, special sanitary napkins are sold, slightly damp. Mostly for travel.

Even in offices, they often hang bottles of solution directly on the wall to wipe their hands if they go to the toilet and just wash them. Americans are obsessed with cleanliness, I love it!

Here, even from many homeless people, it smells of something pleasant. In any shelter, showers, soap, towels and all that kind of stuff are required. In the United States, there are almost no dirty and still hungry. This is not an advertisement, it’s just the way people live.

A lot is already happening. Well, and one more picture, for a stamp.

I'll start with the glasses. In the USA, the fashion for retro is constantly bursting. As you can see, they wore glasses that hang on a purse in the 60s. And now about the main thing.

If you do not know what you will be doing in the USA, then go to manicure-pedicure courses. This pleasure is worth 2-3 thousand, to study for 7-8 months, approximately.

If you have a small income, then you can learn at all for free! Incidentally, this is constant in the United States. If a person or family has a small income, then many things can be obtained from this.

How much do they get? After the courses, one of our friends got a job in Chicago, in a health club (fitness equipment, swimming pools, etc.), doing manicure and pedicure for American clients.

Her official income per year is 38 thousand. This is not counting tips from clients. And what she was still doing at home, on the sly. But this is, in general, quite a lot.

Usually the numbers are smaller, but you can still live. Of the shortcomings of the profession, one can note frequent back pain, because one often has to bend over to work.

And another such moment. If the customers are American, then you can take more. With Russian clients, you really can't run away. Hence an important conclusion. It is better to make money on the Americans, and go to the Russians yourself. This applies to everything - manicure, repairs, doctors, dentists, etc.

That's all for today, but I still have a lot of photos. You ask if something seems unclear.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the differences between Russians and Americans are gradually disappearing. In both countries, children wear fashionable clothes that vaguely resemble the eighties, they listen to very loud music (and, perhaps, not as good as "in our time"), and they all strive to live in a freer country that could be more responsive to their wishes.

But apart from the outward similarities of the younger generations in the United States and Russia, cultural differences between countries are deeply rooted. Of course, the presidents of both countries can be great friends, but this does not mean that teenagers will copy them. Cultural differences persist. Let's note some of them.

1. Schools in Russia are more formal than in America

Most high schools these days give students a lot of freedom. For example, very often teachers do not prohibit teenagers from being in class with drinks, as long as they do not violate discipline and behave normally. In Russia, the atmosphere in schools is more businesslike, not only is it forbidden to bring food and drinks into classrooms, but students cannot even choose their curriculum. In public schools, all students study according to a single curriculum.

2. Respect for teachers is on a different level

In Russia, children stand up when the teacher enters the classroom, as if the commander appears. Teachers are encouraged to maintain an emphatically formal relationship with students. In the USA, a teacher can exchange a couple of phrases with students on abstract topics or tell a story from life. This is not allowed in Russia.

3. Russian teens are not happy with their American peers

Not that they disliked the Americans, rather only the American government. They were raised like that (they are a bit xenophobic). American teenagers, on the other hand, generally have no interest in what is happening overseas in their country. So, yes, some Russian teenagers do not like America, but at least they have their own opinion on international relations, is that bad?

4. In America EVERYONE goes to school

Nowadays, the number of students in a secondary American school can reach 2,300 people and even exceed this figure, which can shock their Russian peers. In Russia, the average number of students per class is 18 (in the USA - 23).

5. Bells in American schools no longer ring

A few years ago, the traditional bell in American schools was replaced by an electronic chime transmitted over the intercom system. The bell sound is still used in Russian schools.

6. Schools do not have lockers

In America, this is so commonplace that children hide in school lockers even those things that they do not want to keep at home. Russian schoolchildren cannot afford a little privacy in their schools.

7. Different attitudes towards the past

When an American parent wants to tell his child something from his life, he usually feels as if he is talking to a brick wall. American teenagers don't care about what happened before they were born. In Russia, teenagers are interested in the history of their country, regret the collapse of the great state, but (according to the author of the article) do not recognize the difficulties that life was full of at that time.

8. Different attitudes towards human rights

In modern American society, children are taught to demonstrate a benevolent attitude towards others in any way possible, including with respect to gender differences. It is allowed to love a peer of the same sex, to question the gender of friends, it is believed that in this way, through play, the child learns to be honest (it's so good, to be honest). In this respect (as the author of the article put it), Russia's reputation is very low, so Russian teenagers prefer not even to think about it, not to protest.

9. Teenagers in Russia have the right to vote

In 2016, in the US presidential election, out of 138 million voters who came to the polls, people under the age of 30 made up only 24 million. In other words, voting is not a priority for young people in America. They are much more interested in participating in open-air protests on Wall Street. In Russia, young people have the right to vote. As one teenager I spoke with said, "The only real help we can provide to our country is to vote in elections."
