A little history

A tunic is a piece of clothing of a certain style that combines the properties of both an independent outfit and part of an ensemble. The tunic can be worn as a dress, or can be combined as an elongated jacket with trousers or shorts.

IN Ancient Greece and in Rome, the tunic consisted of two panels fastened at the shoulders with buckles. This robe was held with a belt at the waist. For women, tunics were long, reaching to the ankles, while men wore short tunics that reached to the knees.

In ancient times, the tunic was a kind of measure of a person’s social status. Rich people and people of position wore exquisite clothes made of expensive fine fabrics, while commoners wore coarser and thicker clothes.

Subsequently, the simple tunic was transformed into other types and forms of clothing. In the East, tunics continued to be worn by all classes, while in the West such attire became the clothing of clergy.

Start with 1 edge stitch and loops before the repeat, repeat the repeat all the time, finish with loops after the repeat and 1 edge stitch. Repeat rows 1-4 constantly.

Openwork pattern B

The number of loops is a multiple of 7 + 1 + 2 edge loops = knit as pattern A, but according to scheme 2.

Do not perform the purl row associated with the cross cast.

To reduce the width, first mark the middle of the back after 107 (111) sts and the middle of the front after 321 (333) sts. In the 3rd circular row from the initial row, subtract 4 sts, to do this, knit the last two stitches together before the marks, both knit the first loops after the marks together with a slant to the left = 424 (440) sts. Simultaneously with dividing the work, bind off 1 x 4 sts on both sides, then in every 2nd row bind off 4 x 1 sts = 72 (80) sts.

After 81 cm = 180 circular rows/rows from the starting row, or after 14 cm = 36 rows from changing the thickness of the knitting needles, continue working with openwork pattern A (B), while continuing the sequence of colors.

After 14 cm = 36 rows (15.5 cm = 40 rows) from changing the pattern, close all the loops as knit stitches, with the middle 34 (38) stitches forming the neckline, the outer 19 (21) stitches forming the shoulders.

Then, on the remaining 88 (96) stitches, knit the front in the same way, but for the V-shaped neck, at the same time as the 1st decrease for the armhole, divide the work in the middle and finish both sides separately, with the inner loops becoming edge loops.

To bevel the neckline along the inner edge, subtract 17 (19) x 1 sts in every 2nd row. At the height of the back, close off the remaining 19 (21) sts of the shoulders.

Sleeves
