    In the process of preparing materials and choosing a pattern, do not forget about decorative elements. Namely, about ribbons, ropes, straps, buttons, beads, embroidered details, bright textile inserts and other accessories that will make your bag even more interesting.

    A simple idea for every day

    One of the many benefits of making your own denim bags from old jeans is their versatility: this addition will make any everyday outfit look better.

    We suggest starting with the simplest sewing option: the handbag is made according to a pattern from rectangular fragments.

    How to sew a bag from old jeans using a pattern? To get started, prepare everything you need. In addition to fabric, you will need a ruler, pencil, pattern paper, pins, scissors, a tape measure, a 26 cm long zipper, as well as a sewing machine and accessories for decorating the handbag.

    You can use whatman paper or newspaper as material for the pattern. Use a pencil to make drawings: a large square 26 by 26 cm (for the walls) and a rectangle with parameters 26 by 10 cm (for the side and bottom of the bag). Cut out the drawn fragments.

    Now open the jeans and transfer the sketches to the surface of the fabric from the inside. Cut four squares and four rectangles from the jeans. Please note that each element must have a reserve length to create seam allowances, so leave approximately 1 cm at the edges.

    The pattern is ready, and now you can start sewing. By the way, if you are looking for how to sew a shopping bag from old jeans, this method will also suit you. The walls of the bag are sewn together first. This is best done on a sewing machine. Do not forget that all seams should be formed from the wrong side.

    The two bottom elements are also connected to each other along the width. After this, the fragments of the bag can be collected together. Sew the bottom along the bottom edge to the side elements - and sew all the parts together. You will end up with a bag without fasteners, but this can be easily fixed if you attach suitable accessories (zippers or rivets).

    Advice: Using the patterns, you can make a lining that can be easily sewn into the bag after it is ready or at the stage of stitching all the component elements.

    After completing the sewing, you can begin decorating the handbag. For these purposes, you can use rhinestones, sequins, beads, seed beads and much more. But we advise you to decorate the bag with such details in advance if you plan to sew in a lining after connecting all the components.

    Now all that remains is to make handles for a homemade handbag. For them, you can use leftover jeans or any other fabric, as well as leather, a long chain or a ready-made strap. For example, cut out strips of sufficient length from jeans. They should be about 3 cm wide. Fold the edges of the fragment inward and stitch. As a result, you will get a comfortable handle one and a half centimeters wide.

    To enhance the strength of the handle, it is better to think about what will be the basis for holding the bag. The best option is a wide chain. Weave the finished denim strips through it and secure the material at the edges.

    The handle is sewn to the bag, and if necessary, the edges are decorated with an additional patch or convenient rings.

    Main stages:

    Make the lining longer to turn the top out or use it to trim some areas of the backpack.

    Sew the two lining pieces together and secure it around the outside of the bag with pins. The lining fabric will be tucked inside with the front part. Sew the edge, leaving a half-centimeter indentation, and make another shock, retreating about seven centimeters from the border.

    Tuck in the lining.

    You determine the size of the lining part that will be on the outside yourself. The lining should be secured from the inside. From the outside, stitch the fabric again at a distance of two and a half centimeters from the outer border. This is where the lace will be attached.

    All that remains is to make a hole on the outside of the bag and thread the lace inside using a safety pin. With its help, the handbag will be easy to close. The backpack for everyday walks is ready!

How to sew a bag from old jeans - what you need for this

In order to stay on trend, it is not at all necessary to go to the nearest boutique for your next purchase; you can sew such a bag with your own hands from a pair of used jeans.

Handmade products have firmly entered our lives and compete well with factory models, not inferior to them either in design or quality. But before you start sewing, You need to remember a few simple rules, the implementation of which guarantees 100% results.

High quality seams. Even if you sew by hand, each of them must be ironed through a damp cotton cloth.

It’s quite possible to do without a sewing machine, but not without an iron.

The presence of a duplicate layer. Of course, whether or not to duplicate the details of a future product is a personal matter for each craftswoman; it all depends on personal preferences and the author’s idea. But it is better to give additional rigidity to the future bag at the initial stage in advance than to look disappointed at the results of your work at the end of the sewing process.

Both flezelin and dublerin can be used as a stabilizing layer. These materials work well. They are quite easy to glue; you just need to combine the denim parts of the bag with blanks made of duplicating material and iron them with a hot iron.

Availability of paper pattern. Most novice craftswomen strive to quickly enjoy the results of their work, and are happy to skip many steps in the sewing process, and only after experiencing the grief of disappointment, they come to the conclusion that there are no extra steps. Therefore, before you start sewing your first bag, you need to know exactly what you want to get in the end result. The sketch of the future creation should be thought out to the smallest detail and captured on paper, not forgetting about the fittings and all kinds of decorative elements.

The finished pattern can be downloaded on the Internet, reducing or enlarging the details if necessary, or you can draw it yourself, using the knowledge acquired in school drawing lessons.

Before starting work, jeans should be washed, ripped and ironed thoroughly, and only then can you start cutting out the details.

DIY bag from old jeans in half an hour: step-by-step instructions

To sew a bag "on a quick fix» no special skills are required; it is enough to know how to use a needle and thread and a sewing machine. However, you can do without the latter.

The bag consists of two sewn rectangles made of denim. The lower part (bottom) is formed by stitching off the corners. Comfortable handles are made of similar material. To ensure that the inside of the bag is neat and not full of unfinished seams, it is lined with cotton. If desired, you can make a rectangular valve.

Required materials and tools

  • Old jeans;
  • matching threads;
  • fabric for lining;
  • needles and pins;
  • sewing machine;
  • ruler, measuring tape and right-angled triangle;
  • scissors;
  • Pattern.

Step-by-step instruction

  1. Open the jeans at the seams and iron thoroughly with steam.
  2. Apply the details of the future bag to the denim, not forgetting the seam allowances (front and back halves + handles).
  3. Cut out 2 main parts of the bag from the lining fabric. The size of the cotton parts must exactly match the size of the denim parts.
  4. Cut out all the details.
  5. Duplicate all “denim” details with non-woven fabric.
  6. Combine the details of the denim bag. Pin with bobby pins along the bottom and side edges. Sweep away.
  7. Do the same with cotton items, with only one difference: in the inside of the bag you should leave an area of approximately 10 cm unsewn side seam.
  8. Fold the handle parts (long rectangles) in half. Align the cuts and baste along the long side.
  9. Machine stitch along all basted areas.
  10. Turn the handles right side out. To make this operation easier, use this simple advice: Sew the lace to the edge of the handle and attach a pin to it, and then thread it through the “denim tunnel”. Now all that remains is to pull the cord, and the handle will begin to unscrew itself.
  11. Remove the basting and carefully iron the seams.
  12. In the bag blanks (both cotton and denim) form a bottom in the lower part. To do this, draw additional lines perpendicular to the line of the bottom seam, as if drawing corners. Please note that the length of the line corresponds to the width of the bottom in the finished product. If you want the bag to have a bottom that is 7 cm wide, then the hypotenuse of the angle should be 7 cm.
  13. Check the correspondence of the drawn lines; they should represent a mirror image of each other. Sweep away.
  14. Machine stitch. Remove the basting and press the seams.
  15. Combine the details of the bag (jeans) with the handles, folding them right sides and pointing down. Chip or sweep. If the design of the bag has a flap, baste it in the same way (with right sides facing each other).
  16. Insert the inner cotton piece into the resulting structure.
  17. Sweep the top cut, making sure that the valve and handles are inside.
  18. Machine stitch.
  19. Turn the product through the hole in the side seam of the inner part of the bag. And the bag is ready!

1. Measure the height of the future bag from the bottom of the trouser leg.

2. Cut off.

3. From the other leg, cut the bottom in the shape of an oval.

4. Use pins to connect the two parts.

5. Turn inside out.

6. Sew using a machine.

7. Cut out the lining. It should be 25 cm larger than the width of the bag.

8. Stitch.

9. Now we make a place for the lace that will tighten the bucket bag. To do this, we wrap the edges of the bag inward and stitch, retreating 2-3 cm from the edge.

11. If you want such a bag to have handles, then measure a certain length of fabric, fold the edges inward towards the center and sew.

The bucket bag is ready!
