Inna Asetskaya

Bobruiskaya Inna Asetskaya is a linguist-translator by education, and at the call of her soul she is a craftswoman and needlewoman. She learned to sew and knit from her grandmother and mother, and she mastered felting from wool four years ago.

“Once I was looking for a gift for a friend and in a shopping center I saw a pavilion where they sold wool for felting and finished works,” Inna says. - Then the felting technique was a completely new direction in needlework, I was very inspired. I passed a master class, and after that I had a lot of ideas for jewelry. It only took time to start making them.

- Today we will make earrings, which I call "Bunches", or "Grape set". This is a very popular model that ladies of all ages love to wear. What is felting, I will explain this: if you look at a woolen thread through a microscope, we will see that it looks like a nettle, with the same small thorns. There are notches on a special needle for felting, and when we insert it back and forth into the woolen ball many times, we fasten these hairs together. This is called felting.

You will need:earring bases (hooks), wooden beads, pins (pins), chain, scissors, pliers, needle with a large eye, felting needle, wool, soap and water.

1.C we twist the wool into a tight ball (for example, 1.3 cm in diameter).

2. We put the ball on the work surface (hard) and start felting: we drive in and take out from the ball a special needle for felting at the same angle. It is impossible to change the angle when removing the needle, so as not to break it.

3. We work with a needle until the ball becomes dense and hard. For a professional, it takes 10 minutes for one ball and about half a thousand movements with a needle, I do not advise a beginner to rush.

4.
To get the perfect ball during felting, you need to dip it in soapy water. The alkaline solution helps to hold the hairs together more tightly. When the ball is completely ready, rinse it with water, give it a rounded shape and leave to dry. Felting on dry is also acceptable.

5. If, after felting is complete, you notice small fibers, you can trim them neatly with scissors.

6. We make all the other balls in the same way. For the bunches, we need 7 wool balls for each earring.

7. We take the chain, fold it in half. We will string wool balls and beads at two ends so as not to get tangled and to do everything symmetrically.

8. Getting ready for assembly. We pierce the largest ball with a needle, insert a pin ("pin") into this hole and use pliers from a sharp tip to make a hook to fasten it to the chain.

9. We do the same with the rest of the balls and wooden beads. Cut the long pins slightly with pliers.

10. We assemble according to the scheme: 1st link - a ball, 2nd, 3rd links - 2 wooden beads in each link, 4th, 5th links - 2 felted balls in each link, 6th, 7 -th links - 2 wooden beads in each link, 8th link - two felted balls, 9th - earring hooks (base for earrings), hook hooks - 2 wooden beads. We hook the balls and beads to the links with a hook and clamp them with pliers. The assembly of such earrings takes from half an hour to several hours, depending on the skill. The excess chain must be bitten off with pliers.

11. We unbend the holder ring and hook the whole suspension onto the hook. The last two wooden beads must be hung on the hook. Clamp the hook - and the cluster earrings are ready!

Carefully!

Felting needles are very sharp and easily hurt. Therefore, be careful, do not rush, please be patient and, just in case, a first aid kit. Since the felting process takes a lot of time, you can listen to a radio or an audiobook in parallel. But watching TV or being distracted by the computer is not recommended to avoid injury.

Today we have a do-it-yourself wool felting workshop.

Felting from wool or felting (from the English felt - felt) becomes more and more popular every year. And this is not surprising, because things dumped from wool always turn out soft, pleasant to the touch and give a feeling of warmth and comfort. There are two felting techniques: dry (using a special needle) and wet (using soapy water). The second technique is perfect for beginner fellers, because it does not require special materials and preparation. For example, wet felting can quickly and easily make ball earrings, which will be a great addition to any outfit.

To make wool earrings we need:

  • Soap solution;
  • Felt of any color;
  • Nylon ribbon;
  • Needle with thread;
  • Scissors;
  • Two ear wires.

Let's start with some wool. Its amount depends on the desired size of the earrings, but do not forget that after felting, the felt will shrink approximately twice.

Now dip the wool in the soapy water so that it is completely saturated, and then squeeze out a little.

After that, we put our piece of felt between the palms and begin to gently roll it, just like a plasticine bun is rolled.

Gradually, palms need to be squeezed more and more, as the felt thickens and rolls into a ball.

When the ball has become solid enough and confidently holds its shape, you can start rolling the second one according to the same principle. After the balls have matted, we leave them to dry.

In the meantime, let's take care of the hooks. To do this, we will tie two bows from a nylon ribbon, and remove the ball and spring from the hooks.

Now you just need to pierce the bow with the sharp end of the hook, insert it deeper and return the ball with the spring to its place.

When the woolen beads are dry, you can start collecting the earrings. To do this, we first put a ball on a thread, and then carefully sew a hook to it.

It remains only to repeat the same with the second bead, and the felt ball earrings are ready! Having mastered the technique of wet felting, it will be easy to make not only earrings, but also beads or bracelets, simply by collecting them from woolen balls. Be creative and create your own unique decorations!

Wool decoration- earrings. Bright, unusual, at the same time very light, wool earrings. Due to the "golden" fittings and balls of bright red color, these wool decorations look very worthy. Even a novice craftswoman can easily make such.

On this site there is also a master class on felting wool earrings.

This master class was prepared for you by a Japanese craftswoman living in London, her name is Emi.

To make these earrings you will need:

  • wool

  • caps (caps) for beads

  • ear wires and carnation pins

  • felting needles

  • round nose pliers, nippers

  • felting pad (foam sponge)

Step 1: Remove a small piece of wool, roll it into a tight ball and use a felting needle to start dumping the wool.

Step 2 To speed up the process, you can fasten several needles together using an elastic band.

Step 3: Roll until the wool falls into a tight springy ball with a diameter that fits under the bead cap. If you want the ball to be as smooth as possible, roll it around with wet, soapy hands, rinse and dry.

Step 4 Make a hole in the bead with a thick needle, insert the pin of the stud, put on the cap.

Step 5 Using round nose pliers, make a loop, cut off the excess with pliers. And prepare the hook.

Step 6 Insert the slightly opened loop of the hook into the loop of the ball, and fix the mount with round-teeth.

Felted earrings are ready, wear with pleasure! Beads can be made for such interesting earrings.
